Principal Kimec's Note to SFDS Community

Dear Students, Families and Friends,

What happened to George Floyd and many more who went before him makes us sad and angry. It causes us pain. Over the weekend, that pain led to violence in our city. As our nation now faces a different kind of quarantine with entire cities locking down, we must turn to faith.

We pray yearly on the days before May 13, the anniversary of the first apparition of Our Lady to the shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal. Mary brought an urgent request to pray for peace in our world.

Clearly, we have a long way to go in this work.

Our prayers are with the family of George Floyd and we ask God for the peaceful repose of his soul.

Jesus would not tolerate racism and hate and we will not either.

I invite everyone to join in a Rosary Novena to pray for peace and unity in our world. This can be the Rosary, or any way whatsoever you would like to  join in prayer as a school community. We can unite together and then share again on June 19th, the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, where we celebrate the love of Jesus for souls and for the world.

On that day, we will share pictures, thoughts, and other ways that we are united together.

Students, you are our future, our next generation. Continue to have your voices heard, to make change and continue to pray for a better world.

Our school building and the surrounding neighborhood have been safe. We hope that the same can be said of each of you. I wish you well during these continuing unprecedented times and commend all of our SFDS family to the Mercy of our Loving God.
