Sometimes the Best Move Is a New Beginning - Why de Sales?

Changing schools can feel overwhelming.

Students worry about making friends. Parents worry about whether they’re making the right decision. Everyone wonders if starting over is worth it. As a principal, I’ve learned something over the years: the best school isn’t necessarily the biggest, the newest, or the one with the most programs. The best school is the one where a student is seen, valued and loved.

One of our students, Elizabeth, reminds me why that matters. Elizabeth transferred to St. Francis de Sales High School during her sophomore year after attending a much larger school. Academically, she was doing great, but something was missing. She didn’t feel heard. In a school of over 500, it was easy to feel invisible.

When she arrived at St. Francis, things changed. Not because we had more resources or bigger facilities. We didn’t. Things changed because people knew her name. Her teachers noticed her strengths. Our administrative team listened to her ideas. My door was always open when she wanted to talk. She wasn’t just another student walking through the hallways. She became an important part of our community. Then something remarkable happened.

Elizabeth saw an opportunity that many people overlooked. She wanted wrestling to return to St. Francis de Sales. Instead of telling her why it couldn’t happen, we asked, “How can we make it happen?” She advocated. She recruited. She inspired others. Through her determination and leadership, wrestling returned to our school. That’s what happens when students believe their voices matter.

Every family deserves to ask an important question when choosing a school: “Will my child simply attend this school, or will they truly belong here?”

At St. Francis de Sales, we believe every student deserves to be known, challenged, supported, and empowered to lead. Our smaller size allows us to see students as individuals rather than numbers. We celebrate their talents, invest in their growth, and create opportunities for them to shape the future of our school.

Sometimes transferring schools isn’t about walking away from something. It’s about finding your right fit.

Sometimes it’s about walking toward the place where your child can become who they were always meant to be.

If you’re considering a change, we’d love to meet you. Come visit our campus. Talk with our students. Sit down with our team. Ask the hard questions.

The right school doesn’t just educate students. It helps them discover their voice. And sometimes, that voice changes an entire school.
